BBCWST- Dial 3000 to learn English with the BBC World Service
Thanks to a partnership with the BBC World Service Trust (BBCWST), Airtel subscribers will now have access to high quality English language learning materials on their mobile phones.
Audio services
Airtel subscribers will be able to listen to English lessons and take English quizzes on their mobile phone through dual tone multi-frequency and interactive voice response (IVR).
SMS services
Airtel subscribers will be able to take English quizzes on their mobile phones through SMS push pull and subscription services.
Internet services
Airtel subscribers will be able to download English lessons and take English quizzes on their mobile phones through the new BBCWST WAP site: bbcjanala.com/mobile
Accessing the SMS services
Airtel subscribers can test their English language skill by taking a weekly SMS quiz. To participate in the quiz, subscribers should send an SMS message with the word "QUIZ" to 3000. In reply, subscribers will receive an English language quiz.
Airtel subscribers will also be able to have their say in the new BBC television series, Buzz. Each week at 9.20pm on ATN Bangla, the presenters of BBC Buzz will ask viewers their opinion on a topic. To participate, subscribers should send an SMS message with the word FEEDBACK their opinion to 3000.
Accessing the audio (IVR) services:
Airtel subscribers will be able to listen to the following English lessons by dialing the number 3000:
- Every day English
- Essential English – weekly lesson
- Pronunciation – weekly lesson
- How to tell a story – listen to the weekly lesson and then record your own story
- English used in the news – weekly lesson
- Weekly quiz
- BBC Buzz
- Practicing English with Rinku and his friends – weekly lesson
- Have your say in next week’s BBC Buzz television show by recording a message
Charges:
Browsing the IVR menu, listening to lessons and taking quizzes will be charged at 1 taka per minute (without VAT)
Every SMS sent to the 3000 short code will be charged at 0.50 taka (without VAT)
HSC Suggestion
HSC Suggestion IVR Service
To get the HSC suggestion dial 2008, IVR prompt will greet you and request to make the selection amongst the following:
- Press ‘1’ for ‘HSC Suggestion’
- Press ‘2’ for the ‘Focus Bangla News’ Service
Pressing 1 would allow you to get inside HSC Suggestion.
- You will select amongst different Course (Science, Arts, Commerce).
- Once the course is selected, you will be able to select amongst different Board (Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Jeshore, Sylhet, Borishal, Comilla).
- Select the subject (Bengali, English, etc.)
- Select which paper you would like to have the suggestion for.
- The Suggestion Content of different renowned teachers of that board will be played.
Charges: Tk. 2 per min.

Q. Do I have to subscribe for the service?
A. No, any one who is Airtel active subscriber can enjoy this service.
Q. Do I need to press any key to select what to listen?
A. Yes, after dialing 2008, you will listen to Welcome IVR prompts. Then you will be instructed to press different numbers according to your need.
Q. Do I need to select language after dialing the short number?
A. No, all the information services are in Bengali.
Q. What is the pulse for the voice service?
A. 60 seconds.
Weather
Use the Weather menu to get updates on weather from cities around the globe.
- To get local weather update, click on “local”
- To get a weeklong weather forecast of your city, click on “Forecast”
- To get a weather update for a city around the globe, click on “City” and type in the name your desired location.
Dictionary
The Airtel menu has its own electronic dictionary.
Click on “Dictionary” and type in the word which want to search out. You will shortly receive the definition over SMS
